Freedom Food Forest

Food. Love. Happiness. Freedom.

We moved into the Little Dolls House in 2019 after dreaming our perfect place into reality.

Dreaming into reality? Well yes....Together we sat down and wrote down our dreams for our ideal property. A house with character, off the beaten path, unspoilt and the main thing? A garden where we could grow our own organic food with love, a garden that would teach us how to live off the land and bring us closer to the mother earth and everything she has to teach, a garden with water through it bringing the elements together and a place we could grown and bloom ourselves as human beings.

And then the Little Dolls House appeared for us at just the right time and the rest is history. But the best thing about the house? The Garden. 2 Acres with a boundary stream and a spring which supplies the water for the house and gardens. With an existing small orchard of apple and plum tress as well as a majestic old English Walnut tree, we knew this was our forever home where we could build our dreams or cultivating an edible garden of Eden.

This web site charts our projects, our dreams, our struggles and our triumphs and starts life primarily as a place for us to put our photos of our garden as it develops, the seeds as they sprout and the trees as they grow, of our recipes, our preserving and our endeavours on this piece of this earth we get to call home.

GROWING

Seeds, vegetables, fruit and nuts. Meet the plants & trees that make up the Freedom Forest Garden

PLANS

Developing and honouring the land

Nourishment

Recipes, preserving and tasting the garden

We are just starting to lay the foundations of our food forest and are in the planning stage , so much to do !
At the moment Will has drawn up a rough plan and I've just got stuck in there and started making beds so we can get some trees planted!

Let there be light!

In 2022 we had 12 conifers felled that were putting much of the forest garden into shade , now they have come down it has really opened it up and provided so much light and more space .
We plan to put a large log store in as well as a turning circle and also to integrate that with the existing well house so we can put ICBs there for more rain water capture

All great things start off small...

Taking a tiny seed and seeing it grow into a vegetable is a combination of energy, attention and love, and boy do we love seeds here at Freedom Forest Garden!

"A bee takes her nourishment from the parts of the plant that are steeped in love,
In this way the bee brings the love from the flowers into the beehive"
Rudolph Steiner

We are very new to bee keeping and got our first 2 hives in September 2022! So much to learn this year from these magnificent beings who underpin our lives. Without them, there is no life, so we are looking forward to nurturing them and of course to tasting their honey and making our own candles whilst leaving lots of their own resources for them too.
We are planting many new fruit and nut trees in the forest garden. With an existing apple and plum orchard, the king of the garden is our giant English Walnut tree which has bought us huge harvests of walnuts and will hopefully continue to for many years to come

“Trees are sanctuaries. Whoever knows how to speak to them, whoever knows how to listen to them, can learn the truth.”
― Herman Hesse

What's the point in growing it if you aren't going to honour it by eating it?
Food glorious food, from raw straight from the earth to delicious recipes that we have used to make the most of our produce throughout the year...
There's so much to be made from nature! Who needs a bottle shop when you've got water, fruit and fermentation?!

I love keeping chickens,  I had no idea what great company they are and how much they'd make me smile and laugh. They are my real gardening buddies and are very much a part of the Freedom Forest Garden family

Water is the mirror that has the ability to show us what we cannot se.
It is the blueprint for our reality which can change with a single positive thought.
All it takes is faith, if you're open to it.

The water of the Freedom Forest Garden is the life force.
A stream on the boundary provides the water for the garden.
A natural spring feeds the well water which we are blessed with.
A large pond was relined and stocked with plants to bring in different wildlife
Rainwater which is collected from the roof is used for the garden

Our relationship with the water is something we wish to strengthen and go deeper with and we look forward to that journey into exploring the conciousness of the water that surrounds us.

We share the garden with all the local wildlife including this little Deer who visited us one year.....Fallow deer, muntjack deer, birds of prey, wild birds, rabbits and of course squirrels help to bring life to the garden although its also a challenge to protect the crops and trees, it is part of what makes living here so wonderful.
